Balanced Dog Training
Our philosophy is positive reinforcement first. As a balanced dog trainer, integrating the use of training tools and leash pressure allows us to communicate more information to the dog. The more information we give the dog, the faster they learn. All dogs learn differently, and every owner and dog have differing situations. Not limiting ourselves to one communication style allows us to help the widest range of clients. Using only treats for behavior modification and advance training in very distracting environments will limit your success, especially if your dog is in a high arousal state. Not every tool is right for every dog or pet parent, that’s why we take the time to match you with the correct solution to ensure safe and effective training.
Training is all about communication. We do this through a variety of methods; however, dogs don’t interpret them all equally. Knowing how to effectively communicate to our dogs in the right way makes all the difference. Dogs rely on the gestures of humans more than verbal cues, and they pick up on our tones more than the actual words we say. In addition, as owners we accidentally reward our dog’s undesirable behavior unknowingly. We do this is by treating or praising at the wrong time, giving attention in the wrong way or by our bodies giving unintended cues. Our training goes beyond just telling you what to do. We also educate you on why these techniques are effective. Understanding how your dog learns and how/why human behavior effects this enhances your knowledge, resulting in greater success.
Mike has been a professional dog trainer for over ten years. He has worked and consulted for corporate and private training companies and provides the most effective training techniques for his clients. As a balanced trainer he customizes his training practice to the pet parents and dogs since there is no “one size fits all” in the training world. By providing in-home training and training in public locations, he can solve all obedience and behavioral issues for practical everyday life. Beyond the everyday, Mike can train, prepare, and evaluate your dog for therapy and service work. He strongly believes owners should be able to enjoy their dogs as a well-behaved member of the family they can take anywhere.
